Hola Peru!

After some exhausting and emotional weeks of finishing my job, having a million farewell parties, moving to the Netherlands and preparing my travel I finally woke up in Arequipa (2nd biggest city in Peru) today! It might take me a few more days (or at least some Pisco Sour) to understand that it is really happening!

People are very friendly, the sun is shining and it is pretty warm already at 10am (considering the fact that it is winter here). I will be going to town soon to check out a hike to the world's deepest canyon. Hasta luego... :-)

PS: I actually thought that I might be quite a bit older than most people travelling through South America, but changed my mind when I found out that the guy in the plane next to me yesterday flew to Lima to travel around for 3 months... and he was 71 years!

Welcome to the Netherlands!

What a great feeling crossing the border from Germany into Holland!

... especially after a 13 hours drive! Normally you are happy about an upgrade at the car rental company, but this time we did not have a grin on our face when we got a 7.5t truck instead of a sprinter. Upside - all my stuff fitted in nicely. Downside - only 90 km/h for about 900km and James needed to drive all on his own as I am not allowed to drive such a monster. Ufffh! Thanks again James! Dinner on me tonight! :-)

PS: Hmmm, caravans on the road! Yes, I am definitely in Holland ;-)

Getting Started

Still cannot believe I am going to travel around the world soon. In just 16 days I will be sitting on a plane to Peru! It feels amazing, but I am also sad as I leave "my old life" and wonderful people behind. I will miss you a lot!
